ADRIAN'S Bio

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and grew up in Ames, Iowa where I lived until I graduated from high school. During that time I was very active in Tae Kwon Do and I won the Gold Medal in the Midwest Division of the U.S. Open as well as a Silver medal in the Iowa Games. After that I found out about UFC from an article in Blackbelt Magazine and I was fascinated by it. It didn’t take me long to decide that I needed to learn this Martial Art I had never encountered and I applied to the Gracie Academy as an apprentice instructor and was accepted. I moved to Torrance, California where I eventually got my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu from Royce Gracie. After that I moved back to Iowa and began a Jiu-Jitsu club where I taught some students from Iowa State University Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

     After moving around for several years working various different jobs I found a job working retail in Costa Mesa, California. I loved the work but one day I received a life changing injury on the job, I was knocked unconscious in a stockroom by a falling box on a top shelf 9 feet above me. I was unconscious for an hour and had severe problems following the accident. I would wake up every morning with absolutely no memory of the days, weeks, and even months that had passed since the injury. I would have to call my family to understand where I was and what was happening. I would also suffer from life threatening seizures and I would frequently wake up in the hospital Emergency Room where I was being revived by doctors.

      I spent the next year solid in Physical Therapy under the excellent care of Dr. Tommy Chau D.C. who helped me regain my strength and helped me stabilize my condition with the help of an incredible team including Physical Therapists, Neuorlogists, Psychologists, and Massage Therapists. During that time I gain a profound respect for medicine and especially the role of a Massage Therapist in helping Doctors treat patients.

     I had some turntables and a DJ mixer that I had bought a few years back as a hobby and I tried to take it up as a hobby to combat my extreme depression. I started visiting my sister in Las Vegas when I was healthy enough to travel and I met up with DJ Miss Joy who introduced me to the world of a Professional DJ in Las Vegas. With Joy’s help and several other very kind people I became a working DJ. I had to learn to spin records without any memory of what was on them because my brain had not healed enough for me to remember them. While I worked as a DJ I also attended the Nevada School of Massage Therapy where I did surprisingly well considering my capacity for memory and frequent seizures. I excelled at both of these fields, securing a resident DJ position at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay and becoming a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist.

     I started working as a Massage Therapist and I found the work to be very rewarding passing on the care that I received when I was in physical therapy during my physical rehabilitation. This work eventually led me to another life changing encounter, former Ultimate Fighting Champion Evan Tanner.

     I secured a job helping Evan prepare for his comeback fight against Yushin Okami at UFC 82 where I applied all of my training to help him prepare for his fight. I would work with Evan 6 days a week alongside his Muay Thai Instructor Renzo Asparria at Hard Knocks Muay Thai. During this time I had a great time training and discussing philosophy and fighting with Evan and Renzo.

     After Evan Tanner’s death I was looking for a way to continue my work with fighters and also continue my relationship with Hard Knocks Muay Thai. I was driving by the gym and I parked my car and walked in and said to Renzo that I wanted to be part of the gym and work with the fighters again so I asked him if he  would he train me to be a cornerman. He told me he would think about it over the weekend and then on the following Monday he called back and said that “we will give it a try.” I started my training on my birthday and I was horribly out of shape (5’7 and 220lbs) so it was a brutal learning process. During my time learning I developed heart palpitations and a severe panic disorder that was aggravated by my old brain injury. I persevered and through the help of incredible doctors like Dr. Alex Bellinghausen of Better Health Chiropractics, Dr. Robb Rowley of Amigenics, Dr. Vish Sharma of Great West Medical Associates, and Dr. Mark Anderson of the Center for Behavioral Therapy I made some drastic lifestyle changes and I lost 60lbs and I feel way better.

     Thanks to Renzo Asparria’s continued support and the expert guidance of Legendary Cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran I have become a well trained Cutman and I am currently working Muay Thai and MMA events in Las Vegas.
